For the City’s lone Republican, nothing can make this town feel lonelier than the topic of privatizing Social Security. While the President storms full speed ahead, many, including some of Vito Fossella‘s constituents don’t want to rock the boat. And the folks from American Coming Together are all over his back.
He’s in one hell of a tough spot.
And it’s going to get a lot tougher when the In This Together Campaign host a town hall meeting next week in Vito’s backyard–which he has not indicated he will attend.
One of the event’s organizers said Vito’s “constituents want to know where he stands on the President’s plan to privatize Social Security.”
Vito has stated his position in a bold-faced line in a Feb. 18 letter to constituents: “Let me be clear: I do not support the privatization of Social Security. I never have and I never will.”
But that may not be enough to get him out of this debate.
