Who’s winning the battle of the front pages?
Scooby Doo, why are you? Does the Post really think it’s a good idea to give up that much front-page space not merely for a promotion, but to promote an upcoming promotion? How is that house ad supposed to sell tomorrow’s papers–or today’s?
And is the Post Poker sell-a-thon going to keep going till every single person in the city figures out what an unwinnable drag the game is?
And why does the Post promotions department want to give away free sex with two cops? Oh, wait…that’s a news story. News on page one! That’s just crazy!
The Daily News‘ COP SEX treatment is less snappy than the Post‘s, but more informative. And by keeping its scratch-off-game ad down in a little strip, the News has room for a big picture of the president’s goofy run-in with a locked door–though the cruelest page-one treatment of that bit of humiliate-the-mighty slapstick belonged to, um, The New York Times.
