We are on the verge of unsubscribing to City Councilman John Liu’s mailing list–which offers us something like 40 updates a day on the Flushing elected’s opinions. But every once in a while something worthwhile comes over the transom. Today, he responds to the MTA’s explanation for why there were more track fires in 2005 than in 2004, offered in a meeting of New York City Transit bigs this morning:

According to a report presented at this morning’s New York City Transit committee meeting, the track fires were the result of increased ridership and the proliferation of free newspapers.
