In City Council chambers earlier today Christine Quinn gave her first budget response speech. A few of the highlights, before delving into the 38 pages of comment, are:
$1 million to help 311 hire education specialists
Restoring $17 million to city’s District Attorneys
Expanding half-day pre-k to full day over three years
Expanding office hours at child advocacy centers
Expanding relocation assistance for businesses in industrial areas recently rezoned for residential use
The Speaker also called for “an end to the annual budget dance,” which “feels a lot like the movie Groundhog Day.”
More to come.
