Painter Natasha Sweeten was in the throes of labor, proceeding unsteadily on the 15-minute walk from her two-bedroom apartment on Christopher Street to the hospital, when she had an upsetting run-in with a bunch of drunken, rowdy lunatics. Luckily, her husband of seven months, Larry Black, 51, was there to defend her. “Larry had to push one guy away from me!” said a still-incredulous Ms. Sweeten, 37, whose delicate-featured firstborn also seems like a Sir Galahad in the making. “When he first came out, he was a bit swollen and kind of looked like a bruiser,” said the new mom. “I was convinced he was going to be a hockey player.” Mr. Black, a writer for Alliance Bernstein, an asset-management firm, also has a 14-year-old son from a previous marriage.
