It’s John Spencer with the party nod for Senate by a weighted vote of 63 – 37.
He had some nervous moments during the vote, apparently, lurking in a corner and playing with a paper coffee cup as K.T. McFarland bounded around the convention floor thank the delegates who voted for her.
And aides to both candidates told our man on the floor as the roll was being called that they were tracking ahead of expectations. But in the end, it was the Spencer camp talking about bringing the nomination battle to a swift and final close.
“We’re going to win,” said John McLaughlin, a consultant for Spencer, shortly before the tally was announced. “The question is what she wants to do. He’s coming out of here as the designee. If they are serious about beating Hillary Clinton, then John Spencer has to be the candidate.”
