BLDGBLOG has a far-ranging interview with Marxist urban anthropologist Mike Davis, author of City of Quartz, Late Victorian Holocausts and, most recently, Planet of Slums. In the two-part interview, Mr. Davis touches on everything from the militarization of urban space (declaring Black Hawk Down as this generation’s Blade Runner), the rise of Pentecostalism in poor urban communities, and overpopulation. It’s a bit deeper than the usual real-estate blather–who’s buying what, etc.–but these anthropological questions are the foundation any true city planning. Read it! Discuss.
