The Empire Zone is reporting that Hillary Clinton had a behind-the-scenes role in crafting an amendment presented in the Senate today that is intended to push the administration towards some sort of resolution on Iraq.
Two of the criteria set by an older amendment — successful elections and the formation of a government — have been met (at least technically) so the new one emphasized an additional goal: to have 2006 be a year of transition.
Hillary’s people have said that it is that requirement, that troops start coming home in 2006, that most distinguishes her Iraq policy from that of the Bush Administration.
There’s no telling yet if that’s too fine a distinction for ordinary voters to make.
