‘Powdery Substance’ Envelope at Times Confirmed

The New York Times President Scott Heekin-Canedy sent the following email late this afternoon:


At about 12:30 p.m. today an employee in Postal Services Department at our headquarters building in New York opened a business envelope addressed to The New York Times. A white powdery substance came out of the envelope. The person who opened the envelope followed our procedures. He put the envelope in a plastic bag and called the New York City police. They are now on site investigating. We will keep you updated on developments.
