Thanks to some helpful people in one part of the legislature, the list of people applying for the comptroller position is out. Two notable private-sector entries include Alphonse “Buddy” Fletcher, and Bill Mulrow.
Fletcher is a rich, Harvard-educated African-American who, as one lawmaker just told me, “will be hard to say no to.” Mulrow is a money manager who is, not insignificantly, close to Eliot Spitzer.
The real test is on Monday, when Fletcher, Mulrow and the candidates from the lesgilature submit their financial disclosure forms.
