Christine Quinn said there will be a 7.5 percent increase in the City Council’s operating budget, and that 6 percent of it is tied to pay raises for staffers. (The amount is guided by the salary increases negotiated earlier by DC37.)
The numbers themselves aren’t extraordinary. But what’s interesting here is that Quinn has near-total discretion over the Council operating budget, meaning that a little thing like this could conceivably get pinned to her by a resourceful opponent should she enter the 2009 mayoral race.
