Caliguire will challenge O’Toole for Senate

Former Bergen County Freeholder Todd Caliguire, who lost bids for Governor in 2005 and County Executive in 2006, will enter the race for the GOP State Senate nomination in the 40th district.

Caliguire will take on Assembyman Kevin O’Toole for the seat of Republican State Sen. Henry McNamara, who is retiring after 22 years in office.

Conservative activist John Ginty and Wayne Councilman Joseph Schweighardt will run for State Assembly on Caliguire’s line. Ginty challenged O’Toole for Assembly in 2003 and 2005, and lost a bid for the GOP U.S. Senate nomination to Tom Kean, Jr. in 2006 by a 3-1 margin.

O’Toole will run with incumbent David Russo and Wayne Mayor Scott Rumana, the Passaic County GOP Chairman.
