5:30 a.m. Buses will be departing from the Staten Island Mall, the Brooklyn Museum and the Jamaica LIRR stop to reach Washington, D.C. by 11 a.m. to participate in the Climate Crisis Action Day rally. Some members of Congress will speak with constituents about global warming.

9:30 a.m. Sen. Hillary Clinton attends an Armed Services Committee Hearing to receive testimony on the U.S. Air Force in review of the Defense Authorization Request for fiscal year 2008 and the future years Defense Program in Washington, D.C.

9:30 a.m. The Zoning and Franchises subcommittee, chaired by Tony Avella, will discuss 38 Carroll Street in Brooklyn and West 145th Street and Powell J. Boulevard rezoning in Manhattan at City Hall.

11 a.m. The Landmarks, Public Siting and Maritime Uses subcommittee, chaired by Jessica Lapin, will discuss landmarking the Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center in Brooklyn at City Hall.

Noon. Sen. Hillary Clinton holds a Press Conference to unveil a new legislative initiative to expand access to treatment, interventions and support services for people with autism in Washington, D.C.

6:15 p.m. Mayor Michael Bloomberg will speak at the Sloan Public Service Awards Ceremony at the The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art’s Great Hall at 7 East 7th Street at 3rd Avenue.

6:30 p.m. Paul Barrett, editor of Business Weekly and author of the new book American Islam, will discuss the American misconceptions, stereotypes and expressions of Islam at New York University’s Kimmel Center, 60 Washington Square South.

6:30 p.m. The Brennan Center for Justice presents The Dangers of Political Illusions in a Democratic Society, featuring Chris Hedges, author of The Christian Right and the War on America, at Furman Hall, 245 Sullivan Street.

7 p.m. Brentwood, Wyandanch, and Central Islip students, parents, teachers, and superintendents present music, dance, arts, and speeches to demonstrate support of Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s state education budget at the Anthony Felicio Administration Building, 52 Third Avenue, in Brentwood, NY.

7 p.m. The Stonewall Democrats of New York will have their monthly social, Drinking Liberally Steps Out, at XES Lounge, 157 West 24th Street between 6th and 7th avenues.
