Madden draws GOP challenger

Gloucester Township Councilman Dan Hutchison will seek the GOP nomination for State Senator in the 4th district against freshman Democratic Sen. Frederick Madden.

Hutchison was elected Councilman in 2006, winning an upset victory in a non-partisan race in the district’s largest municipality.He ran with Mayor Cindy Rau-Hutton.In 2004, he was the GOP nominee for Congress against Rep. Rob Andrews.

Madden, the former Acting State Police Superintendent, was elected to the Senate in 2003, defeating incumbent GOP Sen. George Geist by just 63 votes out of more than 41,000 cast.The contest was among the most expensive legislative races in state history.
