According to two sources familiar with the event, John McCain will be the featured speaker at the annual ball of the Metropolitan Republican Club, the Manhattan-based organization where Rudy Giuliani launched his political career by announcing his run for mayor in 1989.

The ball, scheduled for May 18, doesn’t have a location yet, but tickets are expected to be sold for $250.

According to one of the sources, Giuliani was invited first and declined. Then they asked McCain – who obviously saw a use opportunity to campaign in Giuliani’s backyard – and he said yes.
