Bloomberg on the Virginia Tech Shooting

At a press conference on Staten Island to discuss the city’s waste transfer plans, the mayor was peppered with questions about the shooting at Virginia Tech and how it may impact his efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal guns.

In a somber tone, Bloomberg – who until now has been quiet about the shooting – said that it was a tragedy and that he’ll keep moving forward with his efforts to “keep guns out of the hands of criminals.”

He declined to add anything to a suggestion that it was “ironic” that the shooting took place weeks after the governor of Virginia signed a law banning sting operations at gun shops.

Bloomberg also said that he’ll be in New Jersey tomorrow discussing guns.
