		<description><![CDATA[<pre>King Features Syndicate, the Hearst division known for distributing cartoons, comics and games to 5,000 newspapers, has announced a successor to Jay Kennedy, the former comics editor.<p>&nbsp;</p><p>Kennedy, a fixture in the cartoon and comics world both creatively and socially, <a href="http://beta.observer.com/node/36997">died last month</a> at the age of 50 while vacationing in Costa Rica.</p><p>Brendan Burford is the new comics editor. Mr. Burford has worked at the company since 2000, when he left DC Comics to become an editorial assistant at the prominent comics distributor.</p><p>From a statement made by King Features’ president, T.R. “Rocky” Shepard III:</p><p>&nbsp;</p><div class="oldbq">“The recent death of our editor-in-chief, Jay Kennedy, was a terrible blow to everyone, both at King Features and throughout our industry. However, as he did in all things, Jay had planned for the inevitability of succession one day when he hired Brendan Burford. Brendan has worked side by side with Jay for the last seven years, and brings to his new position a broad knowledge of the comics and the cartoonists we represent as well as a deep love for the art form.</div></pre>
