Mitt Romney’s Florida spokesman wrote in yesterday to take issue with the assertion by Boca Raton mayor and Giuliani supporter Steven Abrams that Romney lacked an enthusiastic base in the state.
Romney’s Florida communications director Kristy Campbell writes:
“It’s certainly true that Governor Romney has a strong and growing organization in Florida, but I was disappointed Mayor Abrams said we ‘lacked any enthusiastic support.’ Nothing could be further from the truth. As Governor Romney works to introduce himself to Floridians, he is generating tremendous and ENTHUSIASTIC support across the state. The Governor’s Florida Steering Committee is comprised of accomplished and respected Florida leaders led by our Chairs: former Lt. Governor Toni Jennings, former Speakers of the House Allan Bense and John Thrasher, Congressman Tom Feeney and former Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida Al Cardenas.
“We also have nearly 80 accomplished business leaders on our finance team; all have lots and lots of enthusiasm for Governor Romney and his campaign in Florida. Of course, I would be remiss not to mention the 900 enthusiastic attendees we had at The Villages in central Florida at the last stop of Governor Romney’s presidential announcement tour (we were expecting 300) back in February.”
