After a state trooper was killed and another shot, senate Republicans wants to press lawmakers to pass a death penalty law.
“Governor Spitzer says he supports the death penalty. If that is true, he must come back to Albany immediately and do everything he can to get the Assembly to act before another officer is gunned down,” Senator Bruno said in a public state.
Spitzer cancelled an appearance at a NARAL luncheon in Manhattan and is en route to Albany now.
Spitzer supports the death penalty while most of his Democratic colleagues in the Assembly oppose it. (Ditto for the same-sex marriage.) Which will be an interesting test of how much sway Spitzer has with lawmakers in his own party.
