It’s one-on-one in the upcoming special election in the 40th Council district in Brooklyn.
Mathieu Eugene’s spokesman Scott Levenson called me just now from court to say that “Wellington [Sharpe] is off the ballot.”
That leaves only two candidates on the ballot: Eugene and Harry Schiffman.
With Sharpe goes a lawsuit against Eugene that sought to prevent him from running in this election on the grounds that he created the vacancy that he’s now trying to fill — something proscribed, in certain circumstances, by election rules.
In the first special election for this seat in February — Eugene won but was then found ineligible to take office because he failed to prove his residency in the district — there were ten candidates.
