Liz beat me to the punch in noting that Republicans actually do have a candidate to challenge Micah Kellner for the Assembly seat on the East Side vacated by Pete Grannis.

The man with that honor is Greg Camp, former prosecutor with the state Deivision of Criminal Justice who also worked as an investment banker for about ten years. Sources on the East Side said another candidate considered a race against Kellner: hedge fund manager Denis Kiely who works for the firm founded by one-time comptroller candidate Buddy Fletcher. Kiely ultimately declined.

What the Camp candiddacy, and the speculation of Kiely's, show that there are any number of well-connected people from the financial sector willing to run for pubilc offices on the East Side.

Which make Kellner's upcoming fundraiser a little less superfluous than how I described it earlier.
