Here’s what the world needs: one more mass-market celebrity clothing line!

On Wednesday, May 23, as the actress Sarah Jessica Parker arrived at Drive In Studios on West 18th Street to celebrate her new fashion label, Bitten, a D.J. was playing “Hollaback Girl” by Gwen Stefani, perhaps as a sort of atonement: In the June issue of Glamour, Ms. Parker had called Ms. Stefani’s own line, L.A.M.B., “much more avant-garde” than Bitten, adding: “I don’t want to do that for women, because that’s not really their lives. Bitten is simple silhouettes that are affordable.” Me-ow! (Ms. Stefani’s representative didn’t respond to a request for a rejoinder.)

Ms. Parker, 42, who arrived on the arm of beleaguered fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez, wasn’t granting any more interviews on this particular night. She circled the red carpet three times, wearing the simple late-90’s silhouette of denim Capri pants with gold zippers at each hem and a black blazer with a big black flower protruding from the lapel. Both items will be available, along with other clothes averaging around $19.98 apiece, at Steve and Barry’s, in the super-classy Manhattan Mall, starting June 7.

Beth Ostrosky, the fiancée of Howard Stern (“He’s sleeping! He had to go to bed,” she said) was modeling a bust-hugging Bitten tank with a leather jacket by Gucci, black Dolce & Gabbana slacks, and Chanel black pumps. Asked how she’d be most likely to spend $19.98, Ms. Ostrosky said, “Probably on a manicure. Maybe a manicure and a pedicure.”

A short while later, Mr. Rodriguez scurried back out the door without so much as a pink cosmo. “On to the next party!” he told The Transom.
