Columbia Expansion Application Delayed

Neighbors who protested the City Planning Commission’s timetable for reviewing Columbia University’s Manhattanville application have been heard—sort of. The West Harlem community board had feared that starting the review process—called ULURP, for Uniform Land Use Review Procedure—as expected today would limit its members' participation, since the deadline for board input would come in two months, or right in the middle of summer vacations.

A spokeswoman for the commission, Rachaele Raynoff, told The Observer this morning that certification of the application has been pushed back two weeks until June 18 as a result of requests from City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and City Council Member Robert Jackson. In other words, the deadline for the community board’s advisory vote will still come in August, but later in August.

“This is a request from our ULURP partners and was agreed to by the applicant and City Planning,” Ms. Raynoff said.
