The big MoMA deal, which The New York Times reported earlier this year, is now official. City records indicate that the deal for 55 West 53 rd Street closed on May 3 for $125.5 million.
In January, The Times reported that The Museum of Modern Art had sold a vacant lot next to it on 53rd Street to Hines, a Houston-based real estate developer, for $125 million. The lot consists of about 200,000 square feet of buildable space.
Hines will build a mixed-use building on the plot of land that will connect to three gallery floors in the museum.
