Bruno Rubs It In

Here comes Joe Bruno with some salt to rub into Eliot Spitzer's fresh wounds.

In his statement just now, the exonerated Senate majority leader invokes images of Spitzer’s own promise that on “Day one, everything changes,” with the line, “From day one I have made every effort to work with Governor Spitzer in a bipartisan way to achieve positive results for the people of this State. However, this Governor has chosen to politicize his office in ways no other Governor in history has done.”

Bruno goes on to call this a “still unfolding situation.”

Here's the full statement:

I have read the Attorney General’s report and I am shocked and
dismayed by its findings regarding the activities of the Governor’s staff
to misuse the State Police in an effort to discredit me purely for
political purposes.

From day one I have made every effort to work with Governor Spitzer
in a bipartisan way to achieve positive results for the people of this
State. However, this Governor has chosen to politicize his office in ways
no other Governor in history has done.

On many occasions, I have questioned whether the Governor has the
appropriate temperament to lead our State. I have also questioned where
his priorities lie and whether he and his aides have the ability to govern
and leave politics aside.

The Attorney General did an excellent job on this investigation. It
is imperative that we move forward so that we can address the people’s
business. However, in order to do so, the air must be cleared and answers
must be obtained to the serious questions raised by this still unfolding
situation.
