We got the message.
The once-rambunctious comments section has gone eerily quiet ever since we started asking people to register with the site before commenting.
The policy change was supposed to be a filter to keep some of the unwanted junk off the site without inconveniencing our regular commenters. That was, it turns out, a bit much to expect.
Our solution, for now, is to suspend the registration requirement on the Politicker and on all the articles on Observer.com. (Some of you have noticed that the change has already gone into effect.) And we're also working on addressing another recent source of reader discontent by making the site faster.
If you've got any more suggestions or comments, we'd love to hear them.
