Spitzer Aide Resigns

Eliot Spitzer's assistant secretary for energy, Steve Mitnick resigned today, a spokeswoman for the governor confirmed.

Mitnick had been accused for pressuring a member of the Public Service Commission not to investigate what role Con Ed played in last year's blackout. Mitnick's accuser, Cheryle Buley, was appointed to the commission by George Pataki, and some people initially dismissed her complaint as partisan.

Spitzer's spokeswoman, Christine Anderson, said in an email to me,"I can confirm that Steve submitted his resignation to the governor today. He brought his vast knowledge of energy policy to the job and we wish him well as he returns to the private sector."
