Here's a piece of unrelated DUI news I missed the other day. The charges against former Deputy Commissioner for the Community Assistance Unit, Chris Coffey, have been dismissed. [No link, sorry]. Coffey was walking out of his going away party in March when police picked him up. Although he was obviously drunk, prosecutors couldn’t prove that he intended to drive.
At the time, Coffey was celebrating his departure from his City Hall job for a new one with the World Trade Center Memorial. That new job was subsequently put on hold.
I touched base with Coffey last night to find out more. He would only say, "Everybody has been really supportive and I'm just happy to have this behind me."
