Meet Melissa, a 23-year-old Yale grad who works on Wall Street and lives in midtown. On Saturday night, she was holding a plastic cup of red wine and an American Express bag with a shirt she bought for her boyfriend’s younger sister. She was getting ready to watch the James Blake match.
Earlier in the day, she bought a Elie Tahari dress that was on sale for $100. She figured she overdressed when she put it on — her friends were decked out in t-shirts and jeans — but then she saw the Open crowd. “Looks like I went the right way,” she said.
She doesn’t know much about tennis, but seemed to have some familiarity with the field: “I heard James Blake is cute.”
