Bloomberg Orders Hiring Freeze

Michael Bloomberg has ordered a hiring freeze, according to a letter circulated by Mark Page, Director of the City’s Office of Management and Budget, to city agency heads.

From the letter, sent out today:

“Until your program is approved by OMB, the Mayor has directed that all City-funded hiring be frozen. The only hiring that will move forward during this period will be for positions immediately impacting public health and safety.”

The letter cites a “slowing of the national economy and local real estate market” as negatively impacting the city’s revenue.
