Levinson and McGettigan in sight of finish line

Newsflash out of Atlantic County.

County Executive Dennis Levinson and Sheriff James McGettigan sat at a table in Richard Stockton College of New Jersey in front of a small crowd and refrained from feasting utterly on each other.

You know the most vicious teeth gnashing has been had when these two bruisers are able toexchange civil barbs in a public forum sponsored by the Atlantic City Mainland Chamber of Commerce, which is what happened Thursday night.

Money candidate Levinson, a Republican, argued that AtlanticCountyhas been an island of fiscal restraint comparedto otherJersey counties, and bristled at Democrat McGettigan’s promise to reduce taxes to help stem the exodus of Atlantic County residents.

“The county has reduced its tax by 40%,” said Levinson. “We’re the finest run county in the State of New Jersey.”

While other sheriff’s offices are rolling out narcotics, divingand canine squads, McGettigan has relegated his deputies to passing out coloring books, Levinson charged.
