Mariska Hargitay, last year’s Emmy winner for her role as Detective Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and daughter of Jayne Mansfield, didn’t get quite what she wanted for her 19 Beach Street penthouse.
The apartment, first listed this year for $6.495 million, then price-cut twice, has sold for $5.1 million to Shawn Mays and Ouma Sananikone, city records show. Ms. Saninikone, according to an old news report, is a “former Laotian refugee” who became a prominent Australian businesswoman.
“It’s really cocoon-like in there, but it’s really colorful,” Ms. Hargitay told The Observer earlier this year.
The roof deck upstairs is private. “I lie out in the sun, have parties,” she said. Downstairs, the ground-floor garage belongs to the penthouse: “It’s like Batman. You pull in, and there’s only room for one car!”
The interior designer Jeffrey Bilhuber said he gave the apartment “an American clarity and a New York pizzazz.” Television sex crime detectives and Laotian refugees both deserve pizazz.
