Martin Scorsese has had a good year: He won his first Academy Award, for The Departed (even though his breakthrough Mean Streets was five times better), and of course he sold his townhouse at 217 East 62nd Street for $6.1 million. Now, city records show, he and his wife Helen have closed on a nearby 10-room beauty for $12.5 million.

The East 64th Street house, near Park Avenue, has a sand-colored stucco facade, plus "opulent hand blown glass window panels," according to old listings. There's also an elevator, which means the 64-year-old auteur won't have to schlep up and down the five levels.

His seller is Republican bigwig Harvey Schiller, who just became the president of the International Baseball Federation--though he used to be the CEO of the conglomerate that controlled the Yankees. (His buyer, on the other hand, was born in Flushing, home of the Mets.)

In August, The Real Deal reported that Mr. Scorsese would be buying the place for "around $13 million."
