Spitzer’s Other Policy Withdrawal

Eliot Spitzer’s widely-criticized driver’s license policy isn’t the only thing he backed out of yesterday.

The governor also withdrew a hard-to-sell pre-holiday tax measure that would have required online retailers (including the behemoth Amazon.com) to collect local and state sales tax.

Today on WNYC’s The Brian Lehrer Show, Spitzer sounded chastised when questioned about his reasons for withdrawing the proposal, making this dignified understatement:

“It was just a uniquely bad moment to roll that out.”
