The Manhattan Transfers column in tomorrow’s Observer has quite a juicy item on an uptown sale. And not just any pitifully run-of-the-mill $7.8 million Plaza purchase, or some $11.9 million apartment for one-time child star twin girls. Nope.
The title for Most Expensive Co-op Deal in New York History has been usurped from wrinkly Australian Rupert Murdoch, who paid $44 million two years ago for his penthouse triplex (with gym) at 834 Fifth Avenue.
Here’s a morsel from The Observer‘s interview with the lucky seller: “Well, I feel nostalgic, because my kids grew up here. But it’s not a bad feeling to have it sell at a good price. I have bought another duplex penthouse with a great view, so I’m not that unhappy.”
And on life in the record-setting co-op: "…it wasn’t like torture…"
As for the buyers? All we’ll say, for now, is that one of them was once a morning TV anchoress.
