Bill Clinton on 'Media Race-Baiting'

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A woman in the audience asked President Clinton about all the “race-baiting in the news media.” (The news media present looked at each other and shrugged.)

“They’re just on tippy-toes because this has never happened before,” Clinton said, meaning a black man and a woman running for President. “It’s almost like an embarrassment of riches–couldn’t we have done this in some order?”

He said he thought that both candidates were gaining votes based on identity, not losing them. “That’s why people tell me Hillary doesn’t have a chance to win here,” he said.
