In a conference call just now, Clinton campaign strategist Mark Penn and communications director Howard Wolfson said they have accepted invitations to a slew of debates, including one on February 11, sponsored by Fox.
A questioner asked if this eagerness to debate didn’t indicate a loss of support.
“Voters ought to have the chance to see these two candidates dispute one another in a one-on-one setting,” said Wolfson. He added that debating on Fox was legitimate because both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have been on the network, and it reaches a lot of viewers.
Wolfson reiterated his belief that the race would continue through “March 4, and likely beyond, to Pennsylvania and perhaps all the way to the convention.” He said that the results today would be very close, but added, “We do expect to maintain our overall lead in delegates.”
