The numbers aren’t available yet, Mercer County Elections Superintendent Bettye Monroe said that this is the biggest turnout she’s seen in any election — primary or general.
“It’s incredible. We haven’t had a turnout like this and I’ve been here in this office,” she said.
Monroe said that many polling places ran out of authority papers by noon today, forcing the Board of Elections to print more. Normally, she said, there are plenty left over at the end of the day.
Monroe said that the City of Trenton has particularly high turnout, with lines out the door. Also heavy, she said, was Princeton Boro’s first district – located on Princeton University’s campus.
Monroe said that a few machines had cartridge problems, but that there was no disruption in voting.
