Flashback: Dictators, Rancid, Mott the Hoople to Play CBGB's. Kind Of!

Ian Hunter is performing at CBGB!

Well, sort of.

That stage we mentioned earlier that is built into the newly-opened John Varvatos store in the CBGB space is actually going to have live performances every month according to John Varvatos rep, Dace Morris.

That’s right. First show is scheduled for April 17th as a celebration of the store’s opening and will feature some CBGB classics like Jesse Malin, Ian Hunter (Mott the Hoople!), Cheetah Chrome, D Generation, Alan Vega, Handsome Dick Manitoba of The Dictators, Ronnie Spector, Clem Burke of Blondie, and–we saved the best for last–Rancid!

According to Mr. Morris, there will also be a radio station broadcasting from inside the store as Urban Daddy had reported earlier. “It’s still in it’s developmental stages, but it will be sort of like Sirius Satellite Radio and we’ve already bought rights to the name, Broadcast from the Birth Place of Punk,” he said, adding that that name is not yet finalized.

The DJ booth is not installed yet and the nature of the radio station is still in its developmental stages, but it is likely to go live towards the end of summer, said Mr. Morris.
