Verdict reached in James case

Jurors have reached a verdict in the corruption trial of former Newark Mayor Sharpe James, who has been charged with manipulating the sale of city land to Tamika Riley, a friend with no development experience. The federal jury has been deliberating the conspiracy and fraud charges since April 9. James served as Mayor from 1986 to 2006. He was also a City Councilman from 1970 to 1986 and a State Senator from 1999 to 2008.
