One of our favorite moments from Knocked Up happens towards the beginning, when Seth Rogen explains to his friends why Munich is such an awesome film: "That movie has Eric Bana kicking ass. Every movie with Jews, we’re the ones getting killed. Munich flips it on its ear. We’re capping motherfuckers."
With that in mind, allow us to present to you the new trailer for Defiance, which Variety has exclusively posted as a post-Jewish New Year treat. Directed by Ed Zwick (Blood Diamond, The Last Samurai), Defiance is based on a true story of three brothers, played by Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber and Jamie Bell, who stand up and fight back against the Nazis after their parents are killed during World War II. The men take to the woods with thousands of Jewish refugees (you might notice Mia Wasikowska from In Treatment and the upcoming Alice in Wonderland amongst the people they save), and hunker down for an epic battle.
The trailer is perfectly put together, making Defiance look like some combination of Band of Brothers, Predator and Red Dawn, but with Nazis getting a well-deserved comeuppance. We dare you not to get chills when Mr. Craig says, "our revenge is to live." Even the accents, which certainly rate highly on the Boris and Natasha scale, aren’t that distracting.
This all looks pretty impressive. Plus, we’re sure the movie will end with one of the brothers, probably Mr. Schreiber, sacrificing himself to save the other two. And yeah, we’ll probably cry.
Defiance opens December 12th.
