City Comptroller Bill Thompson, who is running for mayor, said he is not expecting to hire Hank Sheinkopf, the Democratic consultant he worked with during his successful citywide race in 2001.
On his way into the Sheraton this morning for an event hosted by the Reverend Jesse Jackson, I asked Thompson about Sheinkopf and speculation that Sheinkopf may work to help re-elect Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Thompson said,"Don't know if he's going to work on the mayor's campaign. He's still a friend, but we probably will not be working together on this campaign."
Thompson did not elaborate. Sheinkopf, who previously worked for Democrats Mark Green and Fernando Ferrer, has not publicly declared who he'll work for in 2009.
A Bloomberg campaign spokesman yesterday declined to comment on Sheinkopf.
