ALBANY—Walking through the State Senate lobby yesterday I ran into Andrew Stengel, the Brennan Center advocate behind a recent report on state government called "Still Broken." He was wearing an official ID badge.
It turns out Stengel, who recently called Albany's efforts to reform "cosmetic fixes," has been hired by the Senate Democrats. Spokesman Austin Shafran confirmed Stengel is now the senior policy adviser for government reform.
The Daily News reported this story on page 31 last Thursday, but didn't put it online.
It was also reported in the N.Y.U. student paper.
UPDATE: Stengel points out that the "cosmetic fixes" criticism refers to reforms made in 2005, not changes made earlier this year.
