Bloomberg to Dine With Staten Island Republicans

Michael Bloomberg will attend the Lincoln Dinner on Staten Island this Thursday, according to a Republican source in the borough.
It’s taking place at 6:30 p.m. at the Vanderbilt, South Beach, and is also expected to feature Representative Pete King of Long Island, who is looking to run for Senate in 2010.
It’s just another casual get-together for the mayor and that party he left but is now courting.
The Staten Island Republican county chair, John Friscia, indicated that he is likely to support Bloomberg running in the Republican primary.
Relatedly, Chris Smith looks at the complicated relationship between the mayor and his former party and says the campaign isn’t afraid of losing the endorsement, but rather, of a close election in which Republican voters could find another outlet for their frustration.
UPDATE: Campaign spokesman Howard Wolfson confirmed Bloomberg will attend the event.
