VSL:WEB // Watch a wildly inventive music video

The new video for Brighton, England’s best-known electropop band, Metronomy, turns karaoke into a contact sport.

At first, at least, “A Thing for Me” looks like any other karaoke video: the kind with a bouncing ball that helps you follow the lyrics. But it isn’t long before this ball bounces through the screen and inflicts maximum damage on the band members (and their lady friends). The French creative team Megaforce directs, and Michele Gondry is an obvious influence, but the ending — a panicked dash through an open field, with dangerous objects coming out of the skies above — will remind you of Hitchcock’s The Birds.
