Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver is conducting a robocall in his district to inform constituents that he helped get $7 million from the state budget to keep Governors Island open this summer.
It was forwarded by a reader who recently received it. The call is unusual since Silver, and other state lawmakers, aren’t up for re-election this year, and indicates that after facing a Democratic primary last year for the first time in two decades, he's not resting on his laurels.
Here’s the script (I'll have audio soon):
UPDATE: Audio added.
“Hi, this is your Assemblyman Shelly Silver. I’m calling to tell you we won the fight to keep Governor’s Island open. I fought for the funding in the state budget to ensure our families continue enjoying the outdoors on the island.
“Together with Governor Paterson, and Senator Squadron, we provided seven million dollars to keep it open. Just a ferry ride away, Governor’s Island is important to our community. Keeping it open was a big win and I hope you make your way there this summer.
“Thank you and have a wonderful day.”
