Bill Thompson is getting endorsed later this morning by a bunch of state lawmakers from Manhattan, while Michael Bloomberg will travel to Columbus Circle to pick up an endorsement from the NARAL, one of the most prominent pro-choice organizations.
Endorsing Thompson today are State Senator Eric Schneiderman, and Assembly members Deborah Glick, Micah Kellner and Danny O’Donnell.
They’re all Democrats who represent heavily Democratic districts with lots of voters who, presumably, will be looking to vote on that party’s line come November. Bloomberg, while seeking the Republican Party line to run on, has been positioning himself, basically, as a Democrat–his campaign is even in talks the with labor-backed Working Families Party.
The endorsement by NARAL, which is much more likely to endorse Democrats, pushes Bloomberg’s pan-party narrative. NARAL does, however, have a history with Bloomberg–he won its endorsement in 2005, and he was a Republican then.
Bloomberg campaign spokeswoman Silvia Alvarez said Bloomberg will not take questions at the event.
Thompson’s event is at 11 a.m. at 320 West 13th Street.
