‘I Would Be Shocked If Barack Obama Didn’t Endorse Bill Thompson’

The Bill Thompson campaign may be playing down the significance of Barack Obama’s apparent disinclination to help out in the mayor’s race—they have to, of course—but yesterday’s developments will have taken at least some New York Democrats by surprise.
When I interviewed Democratic comptroller candidate David Weprin last month for this story about the Thompson campaign, he told me, “I would be shocked if Barack Obama didn’t endorse Bill Thompson. I think we will eventually see Obama in New York campaigning for Thompson.”
