Paterson’s Birthday Base

ALBANY—A reader sent along this list of the host committee for David Paterson's 55th Birthday fund-raiser, planned for June 11.

It's mostly a mix of lobbyists, but (at risk of overanalyzing) it's also a neat reflection of the base Paterson is hoping to build on as he works to revive his political fortunes: African-Americans and, with his push for same-sex marriage legislation, gay activists.

The chairs include Charlie King, of the National Action Network; Sean Patrick Maloney, a former administration official and hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons. I'm told that chairs are expected to raise or contribute $100,000, vice chairs $50,000, patrons $25,000 and sponsors $10,000.

As of the last filing, Paterson had about $4.9 million in campaign cash on hand.

2. The general election. In November, whichever two candidates make it out of the gubernatorial primary will face off to become the next New Jersey governor. While Phil Murphy (pictured) is the presumed favorite in the race due to current New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s dismal approval ratings tanking Republican credibility for many NJ voters, the results are still up in the air. Additionally, with 11 months until the race, there is still ample time for a dynamic shift that could leave another candidate at the top.
