VSL:WEB // A free Lojack for laptops

Tomás Pollak isn’t a policeman, but he can help you get a bead on lost or stolen laptops.

Pollak’s free crime-busting app is called Prey. It sends timed reports on your computer’s status to your e-mail address — if your laptop gets pinched, you’ll know the IP address and WiFi network it’s connected to as well as the programs it’s currently running. And if you have a built-in webcam, you can even get a shot of the crook. Say: “Freeze!”
